Magistrates' Quarters Bill

  • This bill adds some specific requirements for magistrate offices. 

  • OES supported SB386 and the bill was signed by Governor Younkin. This will take effect July 1, 2024.

Add Magistrates to conceal carry permit exceptions

  • In 2023, the VMA submitted a legislative proposal to add magistrates to the exceptions to the conceal carry rules, Va. Code §18.2-308(C).

  • This proposal was not supported by the OES Law Revision Committee or the OES Judicial Administration Committee and the proposal was not submitted to the VA General Assembly as an OES proposal. 

Permit Magistrates to provide a PO Box for voter registration records

  • The VMA submitted a legislative proposal to add magistrates to VA Code §24.2-418(B) to Director Green on May 7, 2021. ​

  • On January 10, 2023, HB2024, was introduced in the Virginia General Assembly. 

  • This legislation was passed!

  • Go to your local Registrar's Office. You will need to already have a PO Box to list. This legislation does not provide one with a PO Box
